In ancient Judaism there were a number of options for the afterlife: eternal soul, resurrection of the body, awakening of the spirit, or nothing. This post will try and show, however, that whenever Jewish texts affirmed resurrection (i.e. upward movement), they affirmed of bodily resurrection. In other words, while there were many different beliefs in the afterlife, there were not various types of "resurrection" beliefs. As John Granger Cook says in his recent book, "The current fashion among some scholars of asserting that there were various concepts of “resurrection” in Second Temple Judaism seems fundamentally wrong (2018, 569)." This will have implications for Paul, our earliest writer, as will be evaluated below.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________

1) Bodily Resurrection in Ancient Judaism

1.1) Isaiah 26:19:
19 Your dead shall live, their corpses shall rise. O dwellers in the dust, awake and sing for joy! For your dew is a radiant dew, and the earth will give birth to those long dead. (NRSV)
John Granger Cook writes: "Isaiah 24–27, usually regarded by scholars as post-exilic in origin, has an unforgettable image of resurrection. Isa 26:14, a text in which the apocalyptic (or “proto-apocalyptic”) prophet foresees God annihilating the enemy, stands in “contrast with the dead who rely upon God” who “are saved and will rise and stand” in Isa 26:19.
The dead do no live; shades do not rise –20because you have punished and destroyed them, and wiped out all memory of them (Isa 26:14 NRSV).
But the dead will not see life, nor will physicians raise them up; because of this you have brought them and destroyed them and taken away all their males (26:14 LXX NETS).
Isa 26:19 clearly refers to resurrection in some sense – using the image of bodily resurrection. Scholarly opinions are divided whether the passage refers to the future resurrection of the individual or only to the restoration of Israel."
(Cook: 459-460)
Brevard S. Childs writes:
....The promise of v. 19 transcends all the promises of Second Isaiah and has been composed specifically for the larger context of chapter 26. The hope for those living between the times is now projected beyond the grave to a resurrection of life, a final victory over death itself. Scholars have long debated whether the promise is only for the rebirth of the nation (cf. Ezek. 37:1ff.), or whether the hope includes the resurrection from the dead of the individual as well. This sharp distinction arose in the nineteenth century within the Old Testament guild when a certain trajectory of the history of Israel’s religious concepts was widely accepted as valid. Many now agree that this scholarly distinction is quite irrelevant for understanding the function of the promise within the context of chapter 26. The point being made is that the ultimate status of the believing community of Israel, which lives at an intersection of two dispensations within God’s economy, is not determined by the rules of the old age. The sign of the new is not that pain and misery cease, but that the promised life in God’s kingdom extends even beyond the grave. For the first time clearly in the Old Testament we hear of God’s light penetrating into the land of the shades (repā’îm) (cf. Psalm 139).
(Brevard S. Childs, Isaiah (2000): A Commentary, The Old Testament Library, p. 275-276)

1.2) Daniel 12:1-3 (II B.C.E.)
“At that time Michael, the great prince, the protector of your people, shall arise. There shall be a time of anguish, such as has never occurred since nations first came into existence. But at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone who is found written in the book. Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.
John Granger Cook writes: "Daniel is almost certainly referring to the resurrection of the dead. Andrew Chester has made the important point that the text is a “vision” and not a “considered formulation of resurrection doctrine.” Consequently, one should not “expect a fully coherent or consistent theological statement at this point. The argument (by Outi Lehtipuu and others) that the prophet is only referring to spirits, since “the land of dust” is Sheol, which itself is the “underworld abode of the bodiless shades of the dead” fails, because corpses are also in the land of the dead. Nicholas J. Tromp’s comment is worth remembering:
The fluid relations between grave and Sheol are manifest in these texts [Job 20:11, 21:26, 17:16, Ps 22:16, etc.]: it is obvious that “dust” also is a category transposed from the grave to the home of the dead. So, in a late text, the nether world can be described as “the country consisting of dust” [Dan 12:2]. (Tromp, Primitive Conceptions, 91)
With regard to the relationship between the grave and Sheol, Tromp argues that “the theory about the partial identity between the two” is “preferable to the bilocation that Maag proposes: Ez 32,17 ff. clearly shows that the individual grave is ‘merged into Sheol’ … which is found in the depth.”
In addition, it is apparent that the Greek translators (LXX and Theodotion) understood bodies to be rising, since verbs associated with bodily motion upward are used. These verbs are never used in resurrection contexts with “spirit” or “soul” in Jewish or pagan texts. Jon Levenson notes, in what can be taken as a critique of Lehtipuu’s argument, that Daniel “gives no indication of their [the dead’s] location, and we should be wise to respect its reticence too.” He points out that 1 Enoch is very clear about the location of the dead (in various chambers), “In comparison, Daniel 12 is remarkably restrained, giving no indication that those about to be resurrected, whatever their ultimate destinies, are sleeping in Sheol, Gehinnom, or wherever.” (Levenson, Resurrection, p. 186)
G. W. Nickelsburg has argued that Dan 12:2 “corresponds precisely to the double vision in 1 En. 24:2–25:7 and 26:1–27:5” and that “this appears to strengthen the case for interpreting Dan 12:2 to refer to a resurrection to bodily existence in and around the new Jerusalem. That is, the eternal life of the blessed and the punishment of those who are cursed in 1 Enoch corresponds with the everlasting life and everlasting contempt in Daniel 12:2. Carol A. Newsom astutely remarks that (“abhorrence”) is only otherwise used in the HB in Isa 66:24 “which refers to the exposed corpses of those who rebelled against God as subjected to undying worms and unquenchable fire.” Consequently, she traces Daniel’s concept of resurrection to Isa 26:19 and 66:24, although “the wicked are not raised” in Isaiah (Newsom, Daniel, p. 364). This is clearly embodied imagery, and Newsom concludes, “it seems likely that Daniel envisions a bodily resurrection" (Newsom, Daniel, p. 364).
The decisive confirmation of the bodily nature of resurrection in Daniel is the conclusion of the book where the seer is told that he will himself rise from the dead:
12:13 But you, go your way to the end and rest; you shall rise [“stand”] for your reward at the end of days (NRSV mod.)
12:13 And you, go! Be off! For there are yet days and hours until the fulfillment of the consummation. And you will rest and will rise upon your glory at the consummation of days (LXX NETS mod.).
12:13 And you, come, and rest, and you will rise for your allotment at the consummation of the days (Theod. NETS)."

1.3) 2 Maccabees 7:7, 9-11, 23 (II B.C.E.)
7 After the first brother had died in this way, they brought forward the second for their sport. They tore off the skin of his head with the hair, and asked him, “Will you eat rather than have your body punished limb by limb?” 8 He replied in the language of his ancestors and said to them, “No.” Therefore he in turn underwent tortures as the first brother had done. 9 And when he was at his last breath, he said, “You accursed wretch, you dismiss us from this present life, but the King of the universe will raise us up to an everlasting renewal of life, because we have died for his laws.”
10 After him, the third was the victim of their sport. When it was demanded, he quickly put out his tongue and courageously stretched forth his hands, 11 and said nobly, “I got these from Heaven, and because of his laws I disdain them, and from him I hope to get them back again.”
23 The creator of the cosmos, the one who shaped the origin of the human and invented the origin of all things, shall restore breath and life to you again with mercy, since now you disdain your very selves for the sake of his laws. (2 Maccabees 7:23)
"2 Maccabees represents one of the most intensely physical understandings that can be found in early Jewish literature. While its precise setting in the late second/early first century bce remains uncertain, it illustrates the continued flourishing of varied conceptions of resurrection. In an extended narrative (6:12–7:42), 2 Maccabees conscientiously magnifies the resurrection as a re-creation of the very same body that has died for the laws. This unit within the work is among those that have been most frequently attributed to the epitomist who condensed the book into its present form (2:23) or to an original source reworked by the epitomist. If so, the epitomist sought to accentuate resurrection in his new rendition of the history of Jason of Cyrene. It offered a crucial complement to the earlier historical narrative of the Maccabean martyrs. Gruesome scenes of martyrdom highlight the narrative, in which the righteous are vaporized, scalped, dismembered, and otherwise physically mutilated. Even so, the martyrs profess their hope in a resurrection in which the very same members of the body will be restored to them in a new and everlasting life (7:7, 9–11). In affirming such radically physical claims, 2 Maccabees draws upon creation theology, envisioning the resurrection as a re-creation of the righteous martyrs. The drastic language of physical mutilation and restoration within the narrative ultimately highlights the contrast between the law of the Greek king who has power to destroy life and the law of the “creator of the cosmos” whose power will restore life and breath through the resurrection (7:30). "

1.4) 1 Enoch 25:6 (Maybe):
25:6 Then they will be merry and will rejoice and will enter into the holy place. Its [the tree’s] fragrances are in their bones, and they will live longer lives on the earth than your fathers, and in their days no tortures, or calamities or scourges will touch them.
“In their bones” constitutes an interpretive crux. Charles notes that a Hebrew cognate expression can mean “into themselves.” Consequently, the “analogy of breath may be more appropriate,” according to Nickelsburg. If the term means “bones” and not “self,” then Nickelsburg notes that “it is possible the author is thinking of the resurrection of the body.” (Nickelsburg, 1 Enoch 1, 315)"
(John Granger Cook, Empty Tomb, Resurrection, Apotheosis, Mohr Siebeck, 2018, p. 482)
-
1.5) 1 Enoch 51:1-5:
51:1 In those days, the earth will give back what has been entrusted to it, and Sheol will give back what it has received, and destruction will give back what it owes. For in those days, my Chosen One will arise 2. and choose the righteous and holy from among them, for the day on which they will be saved has drawn near. 3. And the Chosen One, in those days, will sit upon my throne, and all the secrets of wisdom will go forth from the counsel of his mouth, for the Lord of Spirits has given (them) to him and glorified him. 4. In those days the mountains will leap like rams, and the hills will skip like lambs satisfied with milk; and the faces of all the angels in heaven will be radiant with joy, (5b) and the earth will rejoice, and the righteous will dwell on it, and the chosen will walk upon it.
"The image of the Chosen One is based, according to Nickelsburg, on the Servant of Second Isaiah (42:1–4, 49:1–7, 1 En. 49:3–4 and 48:1–6) and the Righteous One is based on Isa 53:11 (1 En. 38:2).172 Resurrection is expressed by the concept of the ground or earth giving up or returning “that which has been entrusted to it.” Nickelsburg remarks that:
Earth is where the body is buried. Sheol is the place to which the spirit or soul descends (see 1 Enoch 102:5) … The author anticipates a bodily resurrection, either with the shade taking on a bodily form, or with the earth rendering the body and Sheol producing the soul or spirit, which are rejoined. (Nickelsburg, 1 Enoch 2, p. 184)
This is certainly a physical image of resurrection. That is made clear by the image of the righteous dwelling or lodging on the earth and walking on it."
(John Granger Cook, Empty Tomb, Resurrection, Apotheosis, Mohr Siebeck, 2018, p. 485)
-
1.6) 1 Enoch 92:3:
“The righteous one will arise from sleep; he will arise and walk in the paths of righteousness, and all his path and his journey (will be) in piety and eternal mercy.”
John Granger Cook writes: "Since the plural for “the righteous” is usually employed in the Epistle (cp. 95:7, 96:1, 97:1), Nickelsburg believes that the meaning is singular here. The reference according to him may only be to “an awakening to wisdom and the righteous life that flows from it,” given the verse’s emphasis on the behavior of the righteous one, although it could also be a reference to resurrection. Black and Uhlig argue that the reference is to “the resurrection of the righteous” and mention 91:10 and 100:5 along with Dan 12:2. There seems to be no fundamental reason for rejecting the conclusion that the text refers to the resurrection of the righteous and their subsequent behavior. The image of walking apparently envisions a “physical resurrection from the dead.” The emphasis on physically rising from sleep, and not just waking from sleep, also supports the contention that the reference is to resurrection and not a metaphor for what Stuckenbruck idetifies as the “emergence of the righteous community from a period of spiritual lethargy.""
(Cook: 490-491)
-
1.7) The Psalms of Solomon (I B.C.E.)
John Granger Cook writes: "The Psalms of Solomon were probably written in I B.C.E. In the second Psalm, which denounces Pompey for his conquest of Jerusalem (63 B.C.E.), the psalmist probably depicts God’s resurrection of the righteous:
He raises me up to glory and puts the arrogant to sleep for age long destruction in dishonor, because they did not know him (Pss. Sol. 2:31).
Verse 2:31 affirms resurrection, which the author contrasts with the destruction of the arrogant. Sinners, according to the third Psalm, will not take part in the resurrection:
(Pss. Sol. 3:10) He (the sinner) adds sin upon sin in his life; he falls – his fall is serious – and he will not get up (11) The destruction of the sinner is forever, and he will not be remembered when (God) looks after the righteous. (12) This is the share of sinners forever, but those who fear the Lord shall rise up to eternal life, and their life shall be in the Lord’s light, and it shall never end.\1])
\_________________________________________________________________________________________)
\1]) "Wright’s remark (ad locum) that it is unclear whether this is the resurrection of the body or that of the soul is unnecessary, since the verb presumes a physical body being raised. " (Cook: 493)
Since there is no mention of “souls rising” in the Psalms, there is no need to posit a “resurrection of the spirit” in either text."
(Cook: 493-494)
-
1.8) Pseudo-Phocylides, Sentences (I B.C.E- I C.E.)
"The pseudonymously composed Sentences of Pseudo-Phocylides promote an amalgam of afterlife beliefs that includes a literal affirmation of bodily resurrection. The author’s meditations on death and the afterlife emerge in a section dealing with the more practical issues of the proper treatment of the dead:
Let the unburied dead receive their share of earth.
Do not dig up the grave of the deceased, neither expose
to the sun what may not be seen, lest you stir up the divine anger.
It is not good to dissolve the human frame.
For in fact we hope that the remains of the departed will soon come
to the light again out of the earth. And afterwards they become gods.
For the souls remain unharmed in the deceased.
For the spirit is a loan from God to mortals, and his image.
For we have a body out of earth, and when afterwards we are resolved
again into the earth we are but dust; but the air has received our spirit.
When you are rich do not be sparing; remember that you are mortal.
It is impossible to take riches and money with you into Hades.
All alike are corpses, but God rules over the souls.
Hades is our common eternal home and fatherland,
a common place for all, poor and kings.
We humans live not a long time but for a season.
But our soul is immortal and lives ageless forever. (Sent. 99–115)
These poetic lines compile at least three distinct claims about the fate of the dead; and their precise relationship to each other is not immediately clear. First, the author affirms the resurrection of the deceased body from the earth, as their remains return again to the light (103–104). One might conjecture that reference to the “remains” of the dead could refer to spiritual existence apart from the body. Yet the context of the poem clearly gives instruction concerning proper burial procedures for corpses, with prohibitions against grave violation and the alteration of human remains. Given the immediate context, it is more likely that a physical resurrection of the material remains of the deceased will bring the dead out of the earth and into “the light.” The word “soon” may even imply an urgent fulfillment of this “hope.” Resurrection and the other forms of afterlife within the passage, thus, advocate against the disruption of a proper and peaceful burial. Violation of the remains of the deceased will “stir up the divine wrath,” since the deity has destined them for future revivification. Pseudo-Phocylides’ basic logic of admonishing against grave tampering on the basis of a future resurrection is also attested in some later admonitory funerary inscriptions as well: “Whoever changes this [burial], the one who has promised to resurrect the dead shall judge” (BS II 162)."
(C.D Elledge, Resurrection of the Dead in Early Judaism, 200 BCE-CE 200, Oxford Press, 2017, p. 123-124)
-
1.9) Pseudo-Ezekiel (I B.C.E- I C.E.)
4Q385 frg. 2 says:
And I said: 'O Lord! I have seen many (men) from Israel who have loved your Name and have walked in the ways of your heart. And these things when will they come to be and how will they be recompensed for their piety?' And the Lord said to me: 'I will make (it) manifest to the children of Israel and they shall know that I am the Lord'. And He said: 'son of man, prophesy over the bones and speak and let them be joined bone to its bone and joint to its joint' . And it was so. And He said a second time: 'Prophesy and let arteries come upon them and let skin cover them from above'. And they covered with skin and arteries came upon them, but there was not breath in them. And He said to me: 'Prophesy once again over the four winds of heaven and let them blow into them.' And a large crowd of people stood on their feet and blessed the Lord Sebaot who had given them life
"[This] column has presented the very physical imagery of Ezek 37,1-10 in an eschatological setting of resurrection as reward for the right" (Albert Hogeterp, Resurrection and Biblical Tradition: Pseudo-Ezekiel Reconsidered, JSTOR, 2008, p. 68)

1.10) 4Q521 frag. 7, lines 4-8:

And [they] shall b[e] for death [As] 6 he who gives life [rais]es the dead of his people. 7 And we shall [gi]ve thanks and announce to you the acts of justice of the Lord who [ ] 8 tho[se who are appointed to dea]th and opens [the tombs of ]
John Granger Cook affirms that this is speaking of bodily resurrection on page 456 in his book Empty Tomb, Resurrection, Apotheosis, (Mohr Siebeck, 2018).

1.11) Syrian Baruch (Late I C.E.)
"The Syrian Baruch may have been written toward the end of I C.E. 2 Bar 30:1 describes the fate of those who hope in the Messiah:
And it shall come to pass after these things, when the time of the advent of the Messiah is fulfilled, that He shall return in glory. Then all who have fallen asleep in hope of Him shall rise again.
The author then describes the appearance of the souls of the righteous and the wicked (2 Bar 30:3–5). The Lord announces the resurrection to Baruch (2 Bar 42:8):
And the dust shall be called, and there shall be said to it: “Give back that which is not yours, and raise up all that you have kept until its time.”
The prophet queries the Almighty (2 Bar 49:2):
In what shape will those live who live in Your day? Or how will the splendor of those who (are) after that time continue?
He wonders if their form will be changed (2 Bar 49:3):
Will they then resume this form of the present, and put on these members that chains clothe, which are now involved in evils, and in which evils are consummated, or will you perchance change these things which have been in the world as also the world?
The question is about the nature of the resurrection body. The same image appears in this text (2 Bar 50:2–3):
For the earth shall then assuredly restore the dead, which it now receives, in order to preserve them. It shall make no change in their form, but as it has received, so shall it restore them, and as I delivered them unto it, so also shall it raise them. 3 For then it will be necessary to show the living that the dead have come to life again
This is undoubtedly resurrection of the body. Harrington remarks that the apocalypticist thus answers “the perennially fascinating question about the shape of the resurrection body.” The shape of the wicked will then become more evil, and the shape of the righteous will “become progressively more glorious” (2 Bar 51:2–5)."

1.12) The Fourth Sibylline Oracle (Late I C.E.)
God himself will again give shape to the bones and ashes of people, and will raise mortals again, as they were before. (Sib. Or. 4.181-2)
"The Fourth Sibylline Oracle affirms that resurrection bodies will have the same form as they did in life. John J. Collins analyzes the composition of the book as “a hellenistic oracle updated by a Jew in the late first century A.D.”
Resurrection begins with the bones, and Elledge justly compares the text to Pseudo-Ezekiel from the Dead Sea Scrolls (Elledge, Resurrection, p. 128). The insistence that mortals will appear as they were before is similar to that of 2 Bar 50:2–3."

1.13) The Testament of Judah 25:1 (II B.C.E -II C.E.)
And after these things shall Abraham and Isaac and Jacob arise unto life (25:1)
"The verb’s use [arise] indicates bodily resurrection" (Cook: 456)
-
1.14) T. Ab. 7:17 (I-II C.E.)
Bodily resurrection occurs in T. Ab.:
“At that time all flesh shall rise” (T. Ab. 7.17; the short recension)
-
1.15) SEG 15, 811 (II-III C.E.)
"A funerary inscription for a Jewish woman named Regina from the Monteverde catacombs [says]:
She will live again, return to the light again. For she can hope that she will rise to the life promised as a real assurance to the worthy and the pious in that she has deserved to possess an abode in the hallowed land.
Joseph S. Park writes that surgat “seems to evoke an image of the deceased literally rising from the grave” (Park, Conceptions, p. 167)." (Cook: 474)

Do Jewish Texts Speak of Resurrection of the Spirit/Soul?

Here, several texts that some readers say is referring to a resurrection of the spirit/soul will be evaluated.
2.1) Jubilees 23:31 (160-143 B.C.E.)
"And their bones shall rest in the earth, And their spirits shall have much joy, And they shall know that it is the Lord who executes judgment, And shows mercy to hundreds and thousands and to all that love Him"
"In Jub 23.30–1, the term ‘rise up’ does not denote resurrection, but the exaltation of the people of God who ‘see great peace’ and ‘drive out their enemies’."
(James Ware, The Resurrection of Jesus in the Pre-Pauline Formula of 1 Cor 15.3–5, 2014, p. 491)
This may be an exaltation, but since we are talking about texts that speak of resurrection, like Paul does, it renders this example irrelevant. John Granger Cook writes:
"John J. Collins classifies the view of afterlife in Jub. 23.26–31 as ‘resurrection, or exaltation, of the spirit’ to heaven. Jub. 23.30, however, only asserts that the Lord’s servants ‘will rise and see great peace’, and the phrase is a reference to the ‘prosperity of the living not the resurrection of the dead’. ‘Exaltation of the spirit’ is acceptable in certain cases, but ‘resurrection of the spirit’ is a category mistake, not appropriate for Jewish or pagan texts, as a close analysis of the verbs for resurrection (such as ἀνίστημι and ἐγείρω) indicates. Spirits do not rise from the dead in ancient Judaism, people do."
(John Granger Cook, Resurrection in Paganism and the Question of an Empty Tomb in 1 Corinthians 15, p. 61)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.2) 1 Enoch 103:4:
The souls of the pious who have died will come to life, and they will rejoice and be glad; their spirits will not perish, not their memory from the presence of the Great One for all the generations of eternity.
There are no verbs implying a physical movement upward (i.e., resurrection) in [this] text." (John Granger Cook, Empty Tomb, Resurrection, Apotheosis, Mohr Siebeck, 2018, p. 492)
Likewise, James Ware writes:
As Pannenberg observes, the terms which express the resurrection hope within Second Temple Jewish texts, including the verb ἐγείρω, consistently denote the restoration of the mortal body to immortal life. The very few counter-examples which have been adduced are in my judgement not convincing.\1])
____________________________________________________________________________________________
1 I Enoch 103.4, which is occasionally cited in this regard, does not employ resurrection language.
(James Ware, The Resurrection of Jesus in the Pre-Pauline Formula of 1 Cor 15.3–5, 2014, p. 491)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.3) 1 Enoch 22:13:
And this was created for the spirits of people, who will not be holy but sinners, and who will be accomplices of the lawless. And their spirits, because those who are afflicted here are punished less, will not be punished in the day of judgment, nor will they be transported from here.
"The verb μετεγείρω is extremely rare, and it is unlikely that the translator intended it to refer to resurrection. Presumably spirits can be transported to other places, but they do not “rise bodily.”
[...] The Ethiopic of the last phrase (waʾiyetnaššeʾu ʾemzeyya) should not be interpreted to mean resurrection, given the Greek tradition and the presumed Aramaic original verb. This corresponds to one of August Dillmann’s definitions of this passive form (Gt) of the verb: “tolli, auferri [be raised, removed]. This form of the verb, for example, was used to translate ἀπαρθῇ (“be taken”) in Matt 9:15 in the Ethiopic New Testament. The Greek verb does not mean “rise from the dead” in the other two extant usages known to me. Lampe’s definition is pure guesswork. Equally important is the larger context of the passage. The four compartments in the mountain where the spirits are located (that [not dark] of the righteous, that of sinners awaiting judgement who were not judged in this life, that of those who were murdered, and the compartment of 22:13) do not admit of transfer from one to the other, and this supports Milik’s view. The Greek prefix (μετα) in verbs such as μεταπλανάομαι, μετασαλεύω, μετατίθημι often implies motion from. Therefore, it is reasonable to believe that an ancient construct such as μετεγείρω could mean “rise/move away from,” or something similar. The statement in 1 En. 22:13 is negative, and cannot be taken to affirm a resurrection of the spirits. It clearly states that the spirits will not be raised or better “be moved” from their current location."
(John Granger Cook, Empty Tomb, Resurrection, Apotheosis, Mohr Siebeck, 2018, p. 479, 480-481)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.4) 2 Enoch 22.8, 10:
“The Lord said to Michael, ‘Take Enoch and extract (him) from his earthly clothing [...] and put (him) into the clothes of glory [...] And I gazed at myself, and I had become like one of the glorious ones”
Andrei Orlov writes:
This is a footnote in a chapter in a MS on 1 Cor 15 I'm doing. It seems here that garments of glory are clearly physical or bodily. The word δόξα can also refer to the splendor of garments[1]
__________________________________________________________________________________________________
[1] Isa 3:18 (τὴν δόξαν τοῦ ἱματιμοῦ αὐτῶν [the glory/splendor of their clothing]), Sir 6:29 and 50:11 (στολὴν δόξης [robe of glory/splendor]), 27:8 (ποδήρη δόξης [full length robe of glory; NETS]), 45:7 (περιστολὴν δόξης [robe of glory/splendor])
(Source= Email Correspondence with the help of John Granger Cook, August 2020)
Thus, this counts as a 16th example for the above section.

2.5) Josephus: JW 2.162-3 & Ant 18.14
Ant. 18.14:
"Now, for the Pharisees, [...] They believe that souls have an immortal rigor in them, and that under the earth there will be rewards or punishments, according as they have lived virtuously or viciously in this life; and the latter are to be detained in an everlasting prison, but that the former shall have power to revive and live again;"
JW 2.162-163:
"But then as to the two other orders at first mentioned: the Pharisees are those who are esteemed most skillful in the exact explication of their laws, and introduce the first sect. [...] They say that all souls are incorruptible, but that the souls of good men only are removed into other bodies,—but that the souls of bad men are subject to eternal punishment."
While at face value, this seems to speak of souls of good men will be raised into an "other body," John Granger Cook writes:
At no point in any of these texts does Josephus adopt the clear verbs for resurrection used by the Hellenistic translators of Dan 12:2. His language resembles reincarnation far closer than the texts of resurrection surveyed in this chapter.
(John Granger Cook, Empty Tomb, Resurrection, Apotheosis, Mohr Siebeck, 2018, p. 513)

Furthermore, (Mason, Flavius Josephus, 169), (L. Novakovic, Resurrection: A Guide for the Perplexed, London 2016, 31) concludes that “Since most of his readers would have found the idea of bodily resurrection repulsive, he used the concepts of the immortality of the soul and metempsychosis
Novakovic writes:
Josephus [...] portrays the Pharisaic concept of resurrection as a two-stage process: a separation of immortal soul from the body at death and a resurrection of the body at the turn of the ages. Yet he insists that the soul will not return to the same body from which it departed but will pass into ‘another body’. It would be erroneous, however, to conclude from this that the Pharisees believed that the earthly bodies of the righteous would remain in their graves while their immortal souls would unite with the new bodies in resurrection. Josephus probably wanted to avoid offending the sensibilities of his Roman audience, who would have found the return of the soul to the same body, i.e. revivification of a decomposed corpse, absurd. His hesitance to affirm any continuity between the earthly body and the new body therefore does not mean that no continuity is presumed.
(Resurrection: A Guide for the Perplexed, 2016, p. 31)
"Robert H. Gundry, “The Essential Physicality of Jesus’ Resurrection according to the New Testament,” in Jesus of Nazareth: Lord and Christ: Essays on the Historical Jesus and New Testament Christology (ed. Joel B. Green and Max Turner; Grand Rapids: Eerdmans, 1994), 206—7, observes that, according to Josephus, J. W. 2.163, the Pharisees held that a good soul will pass into another body, from which Gundry infers: “The Pharisees . . .must have held to physical resurrection for him to have attributed to them a Hellenistically phrased position that ran counter to his purpose in writing.” (Dale C. Allison Jr., Resurrecting Jesus, 2005 p. 315)

3) Conclusion

Although there were competing views of the afterlife in ancient Judaism – including the immortality of the soul and revivification of spirits – there was a very strong tradition of bodily resurrection. [...] The rabbinic concept of the resurrection of the body did not spring up ex nihilo, and the current fashion among some scholars of asserting that there were various concepts of “resurrection” in Second Temple Judaism seems fundamentally wrong. Hebrew, Aramaic, Ethiopic texts, and so forth did not explicitly speak of souls or spirits “rising” or “standing up.” Spirits or souls do not rise from the dead in ancient Judaism, people do. The Targumic and rabbinic interpretations of Hos 6:2 as a reference to the general resurrection correspond to those found in some patristic authors, although the patristic writers identified the reference with the resurrection of Jesus. It is most probable that Paul the Pharisee understood Hos 6:2 similarly in 1 Cor 15:4.
(John Granger Cook, Empty Tomb, Resurrection, Apotheosis, Mohr Siebeck, 2018, p. 568, 569)

4) Implications for Paul

John Granger Cook writes:
The meaning of ἐγεὶρω and ἀνὰστασις in texts referring to resurrection in Jewish and pagan texts was stable until the reaction of the Gnostic interpreters in the second century and later. Those words were used to describe bodily resurrection by Jews and by pagans, and both groups continued to use them to describe bodily resurrection into late antiquity. Apollodorus (II BCE), for ex-ample, reputedly used ἐγεὶρω for Asclepius’s resurrections of the dead (τινας τῶν τετελευτηχότων ἐγεὶριν [he raised some of the dead]) – the same verb Paul chose for Christ’s resurrection. Ps. Eratosthenes (II CE) also used the same verb for Asclepius’s resurrection. Kgdms 4:31 refers to Gehazi’s failed attempt to raise the dead child by touching the boy with Elisha’s staff (the child did not rise). Dan 12:2 Theodotion is equally clear in its bodily imagery of resurrection: (many who sleep in the mound of the earth will rise [NETS]). T. Job 4:9 uses the word similarly: (and you [Job] will rise in the resurrection).
Paul’s frequent references to the resurrection of the (dead) in 1 Cor 15 (e.g., 15:20: [Christ has risen from the dead]) corresponds closely with Apollodorus’s turn of phrase [some of the dead]). The image of the dead in the chapter includes a patently physical aspect, since the (resurrection of the dead, 15:42) is a reversal [it is raised in incorruptibility]) of the decay that their bodies undergo [it is sown in corruption]). Paul’s formulation is even closer to Sirach’s (48:5) (who raised a corpse from death). The image of resurrection in Isa 26:19 [the dead will rise and those in tombs will rise]) is also extremely close linguistically to that of Paul, since in 1 Cor 15:4 (he was buried) is paired with (he was raised), just as in Isaiah (those who are in tombs) is paired with (will rise). The imagery is bodily in all these texts due to the verb’s usage. Only with Gnostic texts does one begin hearing of expressions such as a “resurrection of the soul.” Until then, as I remarked above, the meaning of ἐγεὶρω and ἀνὰστασις in texts referring to resurrection in Jewish and pagan texts was stable (and it remained stable in usage by both those groups). To my knowledge, none of the major commentators on 1 Corinthians 15 in the last century have mentioned these facts. Since Paul did not explicitly affirm the resurrection of Christ’s soul or spirit, one should conclude that according to the established usage in Judaism and paganism of ἐγεὶρω and ἀνὰστασις in resurrection contexts that he envisioned the resurrection of Christ’s body in a transformed state. This is precisely what he indicates in 1 Cor 15:35–58.

It is also prohibited for a Jew to teach Torah to Gentiles in the canonized Hebrew or Aramaic text (see Tractate Hagigah 13), either because of the inherent holiness of the Torah's Hebrew letters and its precise wording, or because they may cause others to err if they know how to read the original text and as a result give their own explanations and interpretations of Torah (the Divine Code by Rabbi Moshe Weiner, Ask Noah International, 2018, p 73).

2020.07.25 14:04 BakaSandwich The Annunaki & The Pharaohs

The Annunaki & The Pharaoh by u/The-Initiate
The Annunaki are a group of Pleiadian and Centaurian rebels who came to earth about four hundred thousand years ago.
They were our Overlords since the time of Atlantis.
The planet Nibiru is a planetary-size body, between three and four times larger than Earth, a dark reddish metallic surface and rings around it. It originated from the Pleiadian star system. It is in a long elliptical orbit with a period of 3600 years, an orbital inclination of 33o and a retrograde path. It used to pass between the asteroid belt and Jupiter during its closest approach to the sun.
Its last passage was March 2003 when it passed inside the orbit of Mercury.
Of note, it was within a couple weeks of the historically predicted date.
It should have caused widespread destruction on Earth and thrown Mercury into a collision course with the Sun.
Someone is watching over us.
....Nibiru is a space station. The rings are part of the force field. The two rings move 90o to each other when it is activated. It is hollow and occupied on the inside.
.. It was damaged in a battle with an alien race of beings known as the Reptiles over a million years ago.
... One of the outcomes of that battle was the creation of the asteroid belt zations on Mars and Venus and Earth were destroyed in that battle.
Humans have been destroyed over and over in many battles throughout the life of the universe.
...They have existed on many planets in many solar systems. They have been in a constant struggle with a race of beings called the Reptiles ever since the Universe was created.
This struggle is part of a larger conflict called the Polarity Integration Game which was created at the same time as the creation of this Universe.
The Nibiru space station was created to mediate the conflict in this area of the Galaxy associated with The Game.
The Nibiruans needed gold, platinum and other transition metals to patch the force field and supply biological needs. Gold and platinum metals are converted to exotic matter or ORME; a substance which is used to warp space-time and travel among the stars
Think “Spice” as in the novel and movie DUNE
It is also ingested to extend and sustain advanced life. There were no stores of minerals on their space station so they had to find it off-world.
They found gold in the asteroid belt!
Their attempt to extract it however, was interrupted when the entire mining operation and the miners were destroyed in a collision between the asteroids.
It was an unacceptably hazardous undertaking to continue mining in that area.
Their initial base of operations on Earth was called Eridu, in the region of the confluence of Tigris and Euphrates rivers in what is now Iraq.
Image of Eridu remains. Oldest known city on Earth.
The story of that landing and the establishment of a primitive base of operations is documented The Lost Book of ENKI.
The leader of that group was called EN.KIor “Lord of Earth”
Location of AB.ZU
Many miners were injured and the remaining miners were staging a revolt.
In an effort to resolve the conflict, as well as to fulfill their contract with the Creators (to provide a vessel for the Etherics and the lost souls of Maldek), EN.KI, with the assistance of his sister Inanna, developed an alien-human hybrid, the original Adam and Eve.
This Being contained the genetic information from the Anunnaki and a native Earth species found in south-eastern Africa known ashomo-erectus.
Homo-erectus was a creation of the Sirians. This Being was created nearly identical to the Anunnaki in every way, except for a shortened life span. This Being was taught how to work the mines and help with civil and domestic chores in the cities and spaceports.
The Adamic man was a big success except he was a bit too smart.
He was quite capable of learning everything that the Anunnaki knew and then some. Matters got complicated because EN.KI started teaching him who he was.
Incidentally, Adam and Eve lived in a compound called E.DIN and EN.KI was the Snake or Lucifer in the biblical story and the “Lord of the Garden” was his brother EN.LIL.
... There was no “Apple” and Eve didn’t tempt Adam. That story was inserted into the oral tradition by Marduk (the god of the Old Testament) around 2000 B.C.
The ‘Eves’ could intuitively see the prison in which they had been placed and wanted out. The ‘Adams’ had to be shown.
It was supposed to impress upon man that the matriarchal system didn’t work and was the fundamental cause of man’s downfall. They needed an obedient slave race and weren’t going to get it with the Eves in charge.
The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil was a symbol for the “ENKI School” which was created to teach the ancient knowledge to Adapa and Lilith (Adam and Eve).
... It was also called the Brotherhood of the Snake; the mystery schools.
.... The fruit was symbolic of the knowledge.
Adam and Eve were prototypical mutant humans that represented a new breed custom-tailored for their roles as obedient servant-slaves of the Overlords.
By telling them who and what they were, ENKI had contaminated the genetic line.
ENKI clothed, taught and protected man.
He, therefore, personified humanitarian goodness and enlightenment through his defiance of authority.
....This leads us to the "gods of Egypt" - (special request!)
Moses and Akhenaton were the same person. Akhenaton was an Egyptian Pharaoh and was the father of King Tut (Tutankhamen) - Akhenaton was born to Tiye and Amenhotep III, was saved by the royal midwives in a reed basket, was discovered by distant relatives downstream (Lower Egypt) and reared by Tiye’s sister-in-law Tey of the (Jewish) House of Levi.
Hieroglyphic Accounts
Akhenaton; The heretic king... Moses.
He received his religious education at Heliopolis and married his half-sister Nefertiti which placed him in line for the throne.
• When Amenhotep III died, Amenhotep IV succeeded him and changed his name to Akhenaton (spirit of the Sun).
Because he had been taught by the Jewish one god belief system, he discarded the pleuristic deities of the Egyptians and created his own city (Amarna) away from the temples of Egypt and worshiped as he was taught.
• Because of the powerful priesthood, he was forced to abdicate and in 1361 B.C. was banished from Egypt. He gathered his friends and relatives and fled to the Nile delta on foot, being chased by men on horses that foundered in the marshes.
His supporters, believing him the rightful heir, called him Mosis, meaning ‘heir’
It was a title, not a name. His descendents cemented the succession to the Royal House of Judah.
• Abraham and Amenemhet I were the same person. Amenemhet I was an Egyptian Pharaoh who ruled from 1991 B.C. through 1962 B.C. He seized the throne after assassinating Pharaoh Mentuhotep IV.
Funerary Relief of Abraham/Amenemhet
Explorer Antonio Lubolo discovered his identity in 1818 A.D. after finding his tomb near the Valley of the Kings in Egypt. The documents placed in the tomb clearly referred to Abraham and showed him sitting on the throne.
The tomb of Amenemhet I is currently the only royal tomb to which public access is forbidden. The word Amenemhet means “Amen is the Head.”
• The God of the Jews was known variously as Ra, Amun-Ra, Amun, Amon, Amon-Ra, Omen, Omen-Ra, Amen, Amen-Ra and others.
He was also the same being as Marduk, the first son and heir to the “Lord of Earth”, EN.KI.
(See above on Annunaki)
The Jewish people still worship the god of the Old Testament, and references to Amen-Ra were often contained in the original names of their patriarchs, such as Amenemhet, Amenhotep and SiAmun.
• The Ark of the Covenant was designed after a Royal Egyptian Conoptic Chest.
Conoptic Chests usually contained the organs of deceased Pharaohs. See Crystal Skull post for more information. Compare this average Conoptic to the Ark. Just add pallbearer.
The Ark
It was presented to Abraham by the Priest Melchisedek as a gift from Marduk.
It carried and produced Philosophers Stone (a.k.a. white stone, monatomic gold ,ORME, mfkzt, “Bread”, manna, the “food of the gods”, the Golden Fleece, the divine mystery of the Holy Grail), an exotic substance that, when ingested, links consciousness with the One and extends life.
It was given to the Pharaohs to give them god-like powers
Akhenaten (a.k.a. Moses) and the Nazarene used it in the mystery schools (Essenes).
...Moses stole the Ark when he left Egypt, which is why he was pursued by men on horses.
The Jewish elite through the ‘Son’s of Levi’ carried the Ark into battle following the Exodus from Egypt.
Through an attached Osiris Device its energy could be directed by the conscious intent of an adept. It could levitate and defy all known parameters of space and time.
(See coming post on Crystal Skulls on what was inside the Ark. This information is all circling together with a conclusion. Albeit, piecemeal.)
“To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.” – Revelation 2:17
• Many other Jewish patriarchs were also Pharaohs. King Solomon has been identified with Pharaoh Siamun (978-959 B.C.).
The word Siamunmeans the “Son of Amun.” He was the last ruler to use the power of the Ark to create mfkzt.
• The word Amen is used in all languages and all religions. The word is repeated over and over in the Old Testament, the holy book of Christians and Jews.
The word is hidden in the word TestAMENt. The word means The Hidden One.
The word Amen is defined in The Holy Bible (King James Version) I Kings 1:36 as “the Lord God of my lord.” Amen is Amen- Ra, the God of the Old Testament.
• Amun-Ra (Marduk) wasn’t a particularly nice guy.
The only obvious reason that the Jewish people have identified themselves with him was because of his Covenant with Abraham. He killed Egyptian children and spread plagues, famine and pestilence. He called himself a jealous God; he was angry, hateful and violent.
• There is an obelisk planted in the middle of Saint Peter’s Square at the Vatican.
An obelisk is a pagan symbol of fertility (phallus) and also a symbol of the god Amun-Ra.
The Vatican’s obelisk came from Egypt.
Vatican.com source and image. The obelisk is from the Temple of Amun; expressed in his fusion with the Sun god, Ra, as Amun-Ra or Amun-Re.
(Amun - Ra obelisk; from Temple of Amun; in middle of Vatican)
What would otherwise appear to be an outrageous display of paganism on the part of the Vatican is actually a symbol of the God of the Old Testament.
• All the major religions came from Sumer (Iraq).
The Sumerian, Babylonian and Egyptian stories of the Old Testament were edited and rewritten to create a history and religion called Judaism.
The New Testament stories created the religion called Christianity, which is the Babylonian religion of Sun worship.
The Trinity of Enki (the father), Adapa(son), and Inanna (virgin mother) were transposed into the Holy Family (Joseph, Jesus and Mary). Islam is an offshoot of Christianity.
Hinduism, Buddhism and Zoroasterism all emerged from the Middle East regions that were under the control of Sumer.
• Inanna figures include Isis, Ishtar, Aphrodite, Venus, Diana, Semiramis, Athena, Minerva, Hera and Juno. The Easter egg comes from the story of Ishtar coming to Earth from the Moon in an egg.
The image of Semiramis (Slave-Queen of Sumeria) is depicted in the Statue of Liberty in New York.
• Enki figures include Osiris, Baal, Molech, Saturn, Nimrod, Janus and Pan.Nimrod (King of Babylon) was the god of the Sun and the ruler of Earth.
He was conceived on Easter and born on Christmas day. Sunday was the day of “Sun” worship.
• Adapa figures include Horus, Christ, Buddha, Krishna, Muhammad, Mithra, Dionysus, Bacchus, Tammuz, Odin, Zoroaster, Indra, Bal, Cadmus, Adonis and Prometheus. Horus was the sun of Osiris or the Sun of a god.
The “all-seeing eye” is the eye of Horus.
• The god-mother-child religions have been used to implant a false history, suppress knowledge and divide and rule the masses.
In 1963 a document (Talmud of Jmmanuel) in the form of scrolls encased in resin, was discovered buried under a flat rock in the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea which was reportedly used by Jmmanuel (Jesus of Nazareth).
It was found by Eduard (Billy) Meier of Switzerland, shortly after a Lebanese priest named Isa Rashid discovered the actual burial site.
The document is the authentic writings of Judas Iscariot, a disciple and contemporary of Jmmanuel. Judas was a loyal follower and scribe and should not to be confused with the traitor Juda Ihariot, the son of a Pharisee.
It was written in Old Aramaic and subsequently translated into German and English.
See Jmmanuel Talmud
It is the only known record of the teachings and ministry of Jmmanuel prior to the time of the crucifixion.
This document has sustained considerable scholarly interest and study and has been found to be internally consistent with itself and the historical record.
...Much of the first four books of the New Testament came from it.
• From The Talmud: The creator of Earth humans is also human but vastly greater in consciousness than we. He and his followers traveled among the stars to earth. They bonded with the people of earth to create an improved human.
The Laws of Jmmanuel:
• 1) Act only in self-defense
• 2) Achieve justice by finding it for yourself
• 3) Do not swear an oath to anyone or anything
• 4) Offer your love wherever it is warranted
• 5) Pray to the omnipotence of your spirit
• 6) Do not amass great treasures on Earth for where your treasure is, so too is your heart
• 7) Take care for the next day, for tomorrow will not take care of you by itself
• 8) Judge not falsely, lest you be falsely judged
• 9) Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened unto you
• 10) Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
• “Seek and understand the meaning of my speech lest you be so bold as to call me the son of God, or the son of Creation, or to insult me by calling me the ruler over good and evil.”
• “Insofar as the laws and commandments of Creation and God are followed there is no need for people to bring forth other laws and commandments, for man-made laws always produce murder and evil.”
“There is no higher happiness than wisdom, no better friend than knowledge, and no better savior than the power of the spirit.”
• “As I do these things, so shall you do them, and even greater things shall you do.”
• “In two thousand years my teachings will be taught anew and unfalsified, when people have become reasonable and knowledgeable, and a new age foretells of great upheavals. A few special selected people, the new proclaimers of my teaching, will preach it unfalsified and with great courage.”
• The (Original) Lord’s Prayer:
“My spirit, you are omnipotent. Your name is holy. Let your kingdom incarnate itself in me. Let your power unfold itself within me, on Earth and in the heavens. Give me today my daily bread, so that I may know gratitude and truth and lead me not into temptation and confusion, but deliver me from error. For yours is the kingdom within me and the power and the knowledge forever."

2020.06.27 00:10 RareGull Homosexuality and the bible

Alrighty, so a few disclaimers: 1: I am no longer a Christian. I was raised as one and attended a UMC Youth Group all of middle and high school. After graduating from HS, I worked at the same church for two years but quit after my second contract was up. I primarily did tech for the Youth and Children's ministries, but my bosses asked me to do a sermon because the youth liked me (That's how they guilt-tripped me into doing them at least because a lot of the students, despite being my age, are my babies) 2: By the time I wrote this sermon, I was already no longer a Christian, so I avoided mentioning a higher power. I wanted to present the information in a way that would be true to my beliefs and the people I was talking to. I did that in the hopes that I would be able to show them a new way of looking at things. 3: Mods feel free to change the flair. 4: TLDR at bottom
Now with that said, onto the sermon!
People tend to quote six specific bible verses throughout the new and old testaments when saying that "homosexuality is a sin." Now to me, that sounds crazy, why would he care as long as you're not committing idolatry, being violent, or exploiting people which is what the verses are condemning, not the same-sex acts themselves (but also as a gay dude I'm biased.) I would've had about 10 minutes to say what I wanted before I sent them to small groups. Meaning I only had time to really talk about one of the verses and maybe touch on a second.
To start, I want to say: there are references to homosexual behaviour throughout the Bible in the Old Testament and the New Testament, and each is without a doubt negative. The Bible was written in Biblical Aramaic and Biblical Hebrew, and first translated into Greek, none of which had a word for "homosexual/ity" at the time. Those words were invented into languages around the 1800s as homosexuality started to be understood as a part of a person's personality. This happened because they simply didn't understand sexual orientation as we do today.
Romans 1:26-27 (NIV) reads "(26) Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. (27) In the same way, the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error."
After reading this, I thought "Well damn; I'm damned." However, the historical context is critical. This is a letter from Paul to the people of Rome, and this is super important to remember because you need to know about Roman culture, what just happened, and religious turmoil at the time. Emperor Gaius Caligula (the emperor who appointed his horse to the senate to insult said senate) finished his rule recently, and his influence was still prominent. A lot of Paul's language in this letter seems to be aimed towards the detestable government of Gaius. Gaius is closely linked with idolatry, even to the point of creating a temple for himself, and trying to erect a statue of himself in the temple at Jerusalem. Paul was addressing this gross misuse of the power by the priests. This included their overindulgence, idolatry, and an over-sexualised spirituality, but NOT the same-sex act.
One of my favourite things about history is when Dante Alighieri created a whole three-book trilogy just to stick it to the people who exiled him. It seems Paul did something similar, but sans the exile salt. In Romans 1:28 he says "Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind so that they do what ought not to be done." Many religious scholars believe the "depraved mind" Paul mentions is Gaius. Basically saying "You guys forgot about God and his teachings, so you get Gaius as Emperor for a lil bit to remind you." and I think that's beautiful and hilarious.
Alright so 1 Timothy 1:9-10 (NIV) reads as so "(9) We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, (10) for the sexually immoral, for those practising homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine..." Paul says the laws of the Bible and other legal codes of the time weren't created for the people who are moral and upstanding, but for the immoral people. He is even so kind as to list groups of people that the laws are meant for. Obviously, I wanted to talk about the "those who practise homosexuality" bit. The word homosexuality is pulled from the Greek word "ἀρσενοκοίταις", and for those rusty on their Greek, it's pronounced "arsenokoitai."
Many Biblical and literary scholars believe that Paul created this word because it is incredibly rare in Greek literature. Whenever this word did rear its head, it was interpreted as "perverts/perverted" as in "[politician] perverted the interpretation of [law] to suit his own needs." This instance is the only time that ἀρσενοκοίταις has been interpreted as homosexuals. Going from "perverts" to homosexuality is a massive leap. Throughout other texts, this word has been interpreted as an abuse of power and economic exploitation, and not a sexual act or sin.
I didn't want to change my message of "The bible has been misconstrued and has been used to progress an agenda for over 2018 years." I did, however, feel that as a tech intern, I was hardly the authority to address the topic of homosexuality in my church. You don't have to read this to see that it has the same base message as the first I posted, but I wanted to post this so that people can use my research, in their own fight. If you have an interest, I can do research on the other four and report back, or you can do it yourself idgaf.
These are the other verses: Leviticus 18:22, Matthew 19:3-6, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, Genesis 19:1-11.
TLDR: Homosexuality isn't technically condemned in the Bible. Politicians going to politician. The Bible has been ἀρσενοκοίταις to push an agenda of hate.

Web sitenize gelince, SSL kullanmak neredeyse şarttır.

Web sitenize gelince, SSL kullanmak neredeyse şarttır.

define ('FORCE_SSL_ADMIN', doğru);
Önemli not: SSL kurmadan önce hostinge giriş yaparak yedeklemeyi unutmayın.

Web siteniz, Google, Bing vb.
Google ve SEO Açısından SSL'in Önemi

Black Hat SEO Nedir?
Black Hat SEO teknikleri çoğu durumda kolayca uygulanabilir. Bunlar en popüler 6 tekniktir:
Anahtar kelime dolgusu
Anahtar kelime dolgusundan yeni bahsettik.

Black Hat SEO teknikleri çoğu durumda kolayca uygulanabilir. Bunlar en popüler 6 tekniktir:
Anahtar kelime dolgusu
Anahtar kelime dolgusundan yeni bahsettik.
neden
Web sitenizin organik trafiğini artırmak biraz zaman alacaktır. SEO söz konusu olduğunda yapabileceğiniz birçok şey vardır, ancak hiçbiri kısa vadede değildir. Diğerleri size bu konuda başka fikirler verirken, asıl amacınız en iyi içeriği sunmak olmalıdır.

2020.03.10 23:34 Arsha_Adarsh [OPINION] Help identifying a movement/ style?

I'm a writer, and sometimes I write poetry. I read poetry, too, and often I love it and sometimes I don't. For a few reasons, I haven't formally studied poetry in a long while- mostly illness.
I've joined a few writing groups recently, and looked through a few new magazines- particularly those who look to publish things that are new/ non-conventional.
There's a new style of poetry that's been emerging for a while. It's very abstract, features strong flashes of imagery that move quickly, short lines and long stanzas, and usually is first person. I want to incorporate some of those elements into my own poetry, because I feel like there's a lot of extra weight they can carry.
The problem is, I... don't get it. This is NOT a criticism. I don't think they are doing anything wrong, or that they aren't good poems. I just find it very hard to understand that style of poetry/ the poet's choices in form. Is anyone able to tell me what this style/ movement is called so that I can learn more and fill in any missing contextual gaps? I'd also be really open to explanation if anyone's able to give me some pointers.
Edit: examples include this, this and this

The inverted triparen is a lesser known meme which I did not invent, but did think of it before seeing it used. I submit this meme be called OKies. Reasons: a sound inversion of the original eh-ko would be ok-heh, yes? Hence, plural ok-heh would be ok-hees (hees = ies); and since OK is a precursor meme meaning acceptable, or favored (okay) we like it rather than abhor it, echo-wise.

—with his overall objective is so ambitious that he has to follow random elliptical courses to get from point A to point B, using patterns that throw people off on their comprehension of the man —that includes most independent journalists and so-called alternative analysts, as much as Western mainstream fake-news publishers and a large majority of the population
—with his general plan exhaling from one of his favorite mottos: “We will give power back to the people, because the United States and its imperialist web woven over the world have been in the hands of a few globalist bankers, military industrials and multinationals for more than a century” —and to achieve, he has to end wars abroad, bring back his nation’s soldiers, dismantle NATO and the CIA, get control over the Federal Reserve, cut every link with foreign allies, abolish the Swift financial system, demolish the propaganda power of the media, drain the swamp of the Deep State that’s running the spying agencies and disable the shadow government that’s lurking in the Council on Foreign Relations and Trilateral Commission’s offices —in short, he has to destroy the New World Order and its globalist ideology —a huge and dangerous task to say the least.
—but in less than three years in power, he’s already accomplished 50% of it while his still confused and demoniacally enraged socialist enemies near their final defeat. (see twilight of elites 2019 brtbt

DJ Trump, Adam Smith, New Mercantilism, Trade War
Trump advocate of 'free market'? I'd say no, tariffs do not indicate a free market, but likewise International "Trade Agreements" don't either. Truly free trade needs no official agreements, only unfettered choice by parties in an exchange. It has been suggested that Trump supports an updated Mercantilism, with the modification that the current objective is not money, but rather human capital in the form of more jobs, business and manufacturing to return to US shores, and the highest quality immigrants instead of 'not the best' 2015.
Investments in Chinese enterprises (exploiting cheap labor) saved American consumers money, but the bigger picture has shown that taken to an extreme, exporting labor dis-empowers local citizens, removing their livelyhoods, and thus their capacity of demand in local markets.
As Adam Smith said, the wealth of a nation is a result of the collective efforts of its people (not the work of corrupt giant corporations such as East India Company, which Smith villified).
According to Smith, the most pressing dangers came not from the state acting alone, but the state when captured by merchant elites.
Neoliberalism, + 3rd Way politics
Mercantile System, note traditional capital; its alternative, human capital is linked above.
Does Pres. Trump intend that tariffs be permanent? I think not; the Donald is a proponent of negotiation, and one negotiates best from a position of strength. One may gain such a position by placing a powerful piece into a dangerous position on the "chessboard". Tariffs represent such a piece, they are easily established by the chief executive, and just as easily removed.

By the way, apparently you forgot how Marcus Anthony made Brutus and the rest of the senate pay for their treachery. So foolish to invoke such a traitor as a proud example. Maybe next you’ll tell us of the justice of Mao and how we was a great hero of the Republic of China.
That’s right, JWJS; what if Brutus was truly a traitor, but with more moxie than Judas, he joined the knife party? (Brutus was not a Jew.) What if Gaius J Caesar was actually a national hero, who was actively on a path to “Drain the Senate Malaria” when he made a mistake similar to JFK and exposed himself to enemies?
The Chief EXECUTIVE Officer is Constitutionally endowed with singular powers, abridged only by balanced opposition as you, JWJS, so truly cite. How else can he smite down the poisonous machinations of the MEDIA Monopoly, the subverted (eg. Epstein) Congress, “security” agencies, foreign interests (eg. 2019.09.09 23:14 Double-Parked_TARDIS I researched the origins of the first name (M–Y) of every contestant

Following up on my post two weeks ago, here is the second half!
Magdalena: From Ancient Greek, referring to a person from the ancient village of Magdala, the name of which derived from Aramaic magdala, “tower”
Maggie: From Ancient Greek margarítēs, “pearl”
Mamé: I got nothing! I really tried—I promise. At first I thought it was from French mamé, a less popular but still attested pet name that translates best as “grandma” or “nana,” and because Mamé was born in Switzerland (Geneva, specifically, which is a mostly francophone city) to West African parents—and because her sister, Coralie, has a French name herself—I thought that French could be relevant. It turns out, though, that things are less cut and dry. While Geneva and its environs have a French-speaking majority, Mamé’s parents are from Ghana, which has far, far less French penetration than many other West African nations have, with adolescent and adult French speakers constituting around only one percent of Ghanaians. Neighboring countries Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, and Togo all have French as at least one of their official languages, but Ghana only recognizes English as well as a bouquet of indigenous languages. I did find in this article (page 903) an individual named Mamé who came to Ghana from a village near Bamako in southern Mali, and Bamako itself has a population of which a bit less than half can speak French. So…I don’t know exactly what Mamé’s origin is, but it’s most likely either from a French or an indigenous West African source. I did not find any Arabic names that bore much similarity to Mamé, so I’ve ruled out that language for now.
Maria, Mariah, Marissa: see Anamaria in previous post
Marjorie: see Maggie above
Marvin: From Welsh Merfyn, perhaps related to mêr, “marrow”
Marvita: I’m guessing that it’s a feminine diminutive of Marvin (see above).
Matthew: From Hebrew Mattityahu, from matan, “gift,” and –yahu, “Yahweh” (compare Atalya in previous post)
McKey: Real name is Brittany (see Bre in previous post)
Megan, Megg: see Maggie above
Melrose: Real name is Melissa Rose. Melissa comes from Ancient Greek mélissa, “bee,” while Rose, interestingly enough, comes via Norman French from a Germanic name, *Hrothohaidis (from *hrōthiz, “fame,” and *haiduz, “character”; for the latter element, compare Alisha in previous post), but it was heavily influenced by the word rose, via Latin and Ancient Greek likely from Old Iranian. Melrose is in fact the name of a town in Scotland, and the name derives from an ancient Celtic source akin to Scottish Gaelic maol, “bald,” and ros, “peninsula.”
Mercedes: From Spanish, meaning “mercies”
Michelle, Mikaela, Mike, Mikey: From Hebrew Miykha’el, “who is like god?” (compare Annaliese in previous post)
Mila: Real name is Lyudmila, from a Slavic source akin to Russian ljúdi, “people,” and mílyj, “dear”
Mirjana, Mollie Sue, Molly: See Anamaria in previous post. Sue derives via Latin and Ancient Greek from Hebrew shoshanná, “lily” or “rose,” perhaps from Egyptian sšn or zšn, “lotus.”
Monique: Via Latin of uncertain origin—perhaps Phoenician
Naduah: An Anglo-American woman named Cynthia Ann Parker was given this name when she was adopted by the Comanche people. The name is an anglicized version of Comanche na-uhru, “was found.”
Naima: She mentioned that she was named for the John Coltrane song of the same name, which Coltrane named in honor of his wife, Juanita Grubbs, whose nickname was Naima. The name appears to be of Arabic origin, from na‘im, “bliss” or “delight.”
Nastasia: She even said on camera what her name meant, which was helpful! Nastasia is a variant of Anastasia, from Ancient Greek anástasis, “resurrection.” Remember how, in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, all the characters said “khristos anesti” during Easter celebrations? Same root.
Natalie, Natasha: From Latin diēs nātālis, “birthday” (or, in Church Latin, “Christmas Day”)
Nicole: From Ancient Greek Nikólaos, from níkē, “victory,” and laós, “people”
Nijah: I don’t know for certain because there is a lot of misinformation about this name online—it is in no way derived from a Spanish word for “water queen,” for starters (reina de agua?!)—but my best guess is that it is derived from Arabic najāḥ, “success”
Nik: Real name is Erika, which derives from Old Norse Eiríkr, from Germanic *Aiwarīks, “eternal ruler”
Nikeysha: Pretty sure this is an invented name based on Nicole (see above) and Keisha, which may be a variant of Keziah (see Kesse in previous post) influenced by various names ending in –isha (such as Arabic Aisha, Germanic Alicia, Latin Felicia, etc.)
Nina: A pet form of names ending in –nina, such as Giannina (see Giah in previous post), among many others
Nnenna: From Igbo, “paternal grandmother,” from nne, “mother,” and nna, “father”
Noelle: From French Noël, “Christmas,” from Latin nātālis (see Natalie above)
Norelle: I’m guessing that it’s an elaborative form of Nora, a nickname for Eleanor or Honora. The former comes from Occitan Aliénor, a name borne by Eleanor of Aquitaine, who was given the same name, Aénor, as her mother and was thus referred to as alia Aénor, “the other Aénor.” I’m unsure what Aénor means, but Wikipedia (so sorry) cites a German source that connects the name to a Germanic name, Adenordis, which may be a corruption of an earlier name akin to *Audamērijaz, “famous riches,” though I would need a better source to confirm this. (Compare the names Edith, Edmund, Edwin, and Edward, all of which derive from the root *audaz, “riches.” Also compare obsolete English mere, “famous”; the names Elmer and Wilmer; and the adjective Merovingian.) Honora derives from Latin honor, which means exactly what it looks like.
Nyle: Respelling of Niall, from Irish Gaelic, perhaps related to néal, “cloud,” or nia/niadh, “champion.” Interestingly, the name Nigel has the same origin.
Ondrei: A phonetic spelling of Andrée, from Ancient Greek anēr, “man,” with a feminine ending
Paige: Referring to a page, a young servant, from either Ancient Greek paîs, “child” (compare pediatrician) or Latin pagus, “(boy from the) countryside” (compare pagan)
Phil: From Ancient Greek Phílippos, from phílos, “friend,” and híppos, “horse”
Rachel: From Hebrew rakhél, “ewe”
Rae: Real name is Ashley (see previous post)
Raelia: Most likely an invented name, perhaps based on Rae (as in Rachel above) and Leah (see previous post)
Raina: A Bulgarian name—who would have seen that coming?—that is either derived from Latin rēgīna, “queen,” or the masculine name Radko, from the common Slavic word rad, “glad”
Rebecca: Via Hebrew from a Semitic root, *rbq, “tie” or “connection”
Ren: Not sure about this one. Ren said that her parents named her after Kevin Bacon’s character in Footloose, but I don’t believe the movie says what Ren is short for. My guess is that it’s short for René, a French name from Latin Renatus, “born again” (compare Natalie above).
Renee: From Latin Renatus (see Ren above)
Rhianna: Probably a variant of Rhiannon, via Welsh perhaps from a Brythonic name reconstructed as *Rīgantonā, “queen” (compare Raina above), plus an augmentative suffix
Rhiyan: An elaborative respelling of Ryan, from the Irish surname Ó Riain, perhaps from , “king” (compare Raina above), plus a diminutive suffix
Rio: From Spanish río, “river”
Robin: A diminutive of Robert, from the Germanic name *Hrōthiberhtaz, from *hrōthiz, “fame” (compare Melrose above), and *berhtaz, “bright”
Romeo: Via Italian from Greek Rōmaios, “Roman,” from Latin Rōma, “Rome,” a name of uncertain origin
Saleisha: My best guess is that it’s an invented name based on Sally (see Sara below) with the popular suffix –isha (compare Nikeysha above), but I did find that salisha is an imperative verb meaning “cause to pray” in Swahili, so…perhaps that’s something.
Samantha: Most likely either from Samuel (with an elaborative suffix) or from the same Semitic root as Samuel: *šm‘, “to hear”
Sandra: see Alexandra in previous post
Sara, Sarah: From Biblical Hebrew śaráh, “lady” or “princess,” which means “female (government) minister” in modern Hebrew, from the Semitic root *śrr, “to rule”
Seymone: Elaborative respelling of Simone, from Hebrew Šim‘on, from the verb šama‘/lišmo‘a, “to hear” (compare Samantha above)
Shandi: Shandar is an Urdu name that means “fabulous,” and Sháńdíín means “sunshine” in Navajo, but that’s not terribly relevant here. Various websites (that do not cite legitimate sources, if any) connect the name to Shannon, Shoshana, or Welsh Shan (see Shannon below, the etymology of Sue under Mirjana above, and Giah in previous post), but this is neither here nor there. The name seems to come from the Kiss song “Shandi,” which was featured on the album Unmasked, and the song was inspired by the Bruce Springsteen song “4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy),” from the album The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle. I thought for a hot second that Shandi was just an inventive version of Sandy, but then I found this book, which implies that the song was named after a singer named Shandi Sinnamon (not Cinnamon, as the book says), who was born Shandra. It’s not clear what Shandra means, but it may indeed be an inventive version of Sandy (see Alexandra in previous post). Whew!
Shanice: An invented name based on the elements Shan– and –ice that was popularized by the singer of the same name
Shannon: From the name of the river, from Irish Gaelic Sionna, perhaps related to sean, “old” or “ancestor,” a word with some derivatives in Irish that contain “wise” among their definitions (such as seanchríonna)
Sharaun: Real name is Brittney; see Bre in previous post
Sheena: see Giah in previous post
Shei: Real name is Andrea; see Ondrei above
Simone: see Seymone above
Sophie: From Ancient Greek sophíā, "wisdom"
Stacy-Ann: see Analeigh (for Ann) in previous post and Nastasia (for Stacy) above
Stefano: From Ancient Greek stéphanos, “crown” or “wreath”
Sundai: From Old English sunnandæġ, “day of the sun,” a translation of Latin diēs sōlis and Ancient Greek hēmérā hēlíou
Tahlia: Likely a phonetic respelling of Talia, from Hebrew tal, “dew,” and –yah, “Yahweh” (compare Atalya in previous post)
Tash: Likely a pet form for Natasha (see Natalie above)
Tatiana, Tatianna: From Latin Tatius, a Roman name apparently of Sabine origin
Terra: Variant of Tara (influenced by Latin terra, “land”), from Irish Gaelic teamhair, “hill,” though other authors associate Teamhair with Latin templum and Ancient Greek temenos, suggesting an Indo-European origin
Tessa: A nickname for Theresa, perhaps from Ancient Greek Thērasía, an island in the Aegean Sea that was once attached to Thera (aka Santorini), or perhaps from théros, meaning “harvest,” “heat,” or “summer”
Teyona: I’m guessing that it’s a phonetic respelling of Tiana, which can be short for Christiana (see Chris in previous post) or Tatiana (see above)
Tiffany: A variant of Theophania (yes, really), from Ancient Greek theós, “god,” and the suffix –phanēs, “appearing”
Toccara: Most likely from the Avon perfume Toccara, the name of which is apparently derived from Italian toccare, “to touch” (compare French toucher and Spanish tocar)
Victoria: From Latin, meaning “victory”
Xiomara: Possibly a variant of Guiomar, which itself is possibly derived from a Germanic name akin to *Wīgamērijaz, from *wīga, “battle” (compare Louise in previous post), and *mērijaz, “famous” (compare Norelle above)
Wendy: J. M. Barrie seems to have invented this name for the book Peter Pan, basing it on fwendy, a childish way of saying “friend,” but the name occasionally predates the book, and in these cases, it may derive from the Welsh word gwen, “white” (compare Jennifer in previous post)
Whitney: From Old English hwītan īeġe, “(by the) white island”
Will: From the Germanic name *Wiljahelmaz, from *wiljô, “will,” and *helmaz, “helmet”
Yaya: Real name is Camara, which has been a little tough to research. There is a Portuguese surname Câmara, derived from Latin camera, “chamber” or “room,” from Ancient Greek ultimately, but I can’t tell if Yaya’s parents—her mother has Brazilian heritage, by the way—pulled a Beyoncé (whose mother’s surname was Beyincé) and gave their daughter a variation of a family surname as her first name (it’s worth noting that her father’s surname is Johnson, and her mother’s surname is DaCosta, so…maybe scratch that theory). A few websites—without citing sources—claim that Camara means “teacher” in Igbo, but it very much does not; the Igbo word for “(male?) teacher” is onye nkuzi. However, Camara is an attested surname throughout French-speaking West Africa—where the Portuguese had some historical presence—so there may be a partial African origin here. I should also note that Islam is popular in West Africa, and Qamar is an Arabic name (meaning “moon”) that bears a passing similarity to Camara. That’s all I have for now.
Yoanna: see Giah in previous post
Yvonne: A French-ass name, indeed. It is derived from the masculine name Yves, potentially from the Germanic root *īhwaz, “yew”
Let me know if I've missed anything!
